Unlike traditional hex editors which only display the raw hex bytes of a file (1), 010 Editor can also parse a file into a hierarchical structure using a Binary Template (2). The results of running a Binary Template are much easier to understand and edit than using just the raw hex bytes.
The following review written by one of the Software Informer contributors applies to version 3.1
010 Editor is a professional text and hex editor which still maintains the easiness on the working process. The program has a wizard-mode graphical interface that takes you step by step on how to edit your text files. With this software, you can edit any text file saved on your computer.
If you are working with binary files and you understand them, then this software will suit your needs. If you don't know much about this type of files, you might feel confused because when you open a text file with the software, it will display tons of numbers along text on the program's window. With this software you can edit the text and the 'numbers'.
This program was designed so that you can view and edit any binary file on your computer, regardless of its size. Plus, you get to edit text files including Unicode ones.
When you have already opened a file, the program will display its information on the bottom of the program's window. Thus, you can display information such as Signed Byte, Unsigned byte, Signed Short, Unsigned Short, Float, Double, Unicode and more.
Some important functions to be mentioned are: Find, Replace, Binary Comparisions, Histograms, Calculator and Base Converter. You can access each of those functions in the Tools menu.
This application is not free but you have 30 days to try it and then decide if you want to buy it or not. |
